We’re looking to make a video for San Jose.
It would be released at San Jose in person.
We should be getting a message from the Prime Minister of NZ to go on the video.
So looking for ideas and people to do the video…
Really after something fun and witty. We can poke fun at ourselves.
Perhaps a simple overview of Wellington in pictures. With some fans introducing it. Maybe mention the wind… Dunno.
This is a brainstorming, so go nuts!

Note: I have a green screen.
I have an idea for frame for PM’s video.
Scene: Two of the committee try to get into see the PM.
Keep getting thrown out or made to wait for ages by the outer circle of security. This is all done by actors at a suitable corporate style office block.
Voice over: “You can’t see the PM she’s getting ready to go on maternity leave.”
Scene: One committee member (Norman?) has lightbulb moment.
Scene: ENORMOUS Gift basket of baby stuff including cuddly Darth Vader (which I have) and Hobbits (which I’m sure Someone has) is seen being delivered to front of Beehive.
CUT TO
PM’s greeting
Incidentally, no reason we can’t say thank you, by giving a gift basket.

Nice. And yes, a gift basket would be appropriate anyway… 🙂

No idea how practical it is, but thinking from an American perspective, perhaps something that incorporates Middle Earth (cuts from the movies or Air New Zealand safety videos, etc)?
If we go with the gift basket to the PM idea, how feasible is it to have an elf / dwarf / orc /hobbit leaving the PM’s office when the committee are trying to get in?
Or the committee in costume, with various movie cut scenes showing the journey across New Zealand?

Along those lines, just been thinking about how our two con-chairs
should be Frodo and Normwise Catesies….dressed as hobbits, travelling
through wind/rain/ etc etc to go see Jacinda the Grey, Lady of the Hive
to ask how to bring the hobbits (fans) to Eisengard….As PRK suggests we could have them “visit” the landmarks the US fans
might know…..
the high tower – the sky tower
Mt Doom….
Rivendell…..easy enough to get to….
Then finally end up at the beehive to see Jacinda the Grey
(Cue her message)
Then our hosts arrive somewhere, like MFC to welcome the other hobbits….

Speaking of her maternity leave – as I work it out, she’ll only be back at work two weeks before SJ – isn’t that cutting things a little close?
On the gift basket, something from the swag, such as a kiwi, and perhaps a styalised nzin2020 logo item would be good? Or, if by that stage the logo for the oficial name and such. No, not suggesting a stretch n grow with the logo on it!
I wondered if mentioning rain as well as wind – or perhaps getting them both in the same shot! I realise that’s indicating to people it will be winter during the con, but it’s probably best to be up front about these things – I have visions of Mary Poppins-style umbrella departures and monsoon style rain moments. I realise that could frighten people off, but….it’s also not unrealistic either….

In theory, they will be delivering the video to us, pre done. So in theory all we have to do is slot it in.
Yes, it’s a risk…
But we can do most of it well before hand.
We should try to incorporate weather in if we can in an amusing way… Because, yeah, it’s going to be something that people need to be very aware of.

Suggest that for scenes where actor is traveling between govt offices they use a skate board and an open umbrella, prehaps passed on street by other similar commuters. Very funny if so implied that the wind in wellington blows both ways at once!

I laughed out loud and puzzled other people in the room.

One type of video I’d love to have is a clips video to music.
So clips of NZ movies, books, people, whatever we can.
This would almost certainly not be able to go online because of copyright on the music, but could be shown in person at events.
One piece of possible music is “It couldn’t be done” by Tim Finn
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uLPYSlgiDlE
Or a cover?
There’s another from Tim Finn… “Out of this world”
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FEvVvJx9i94
At the least we can get the videos and make a play list…
