Wikis and Documents

This is a transition section to document why we are using specific tools.

Wikis

Wikis are a type of web page that allows users to add and change information without needing HTML access or complicated administrative access. In our case, we are using Google Sites as a Wiki. This means that anyone with permissions (and that should be most people) can update or change information. There is a revision history that allows roll backs in case a mistake is made.

Currently the three Google Sites we have set up for CoNZealand are:

CoNZealand Wiki – As of 6/9/18 needs significant updating since it is a copy of the NZ in 2020 Wiki.

CoNZealand Divisions – Our list and specifications for Divisions. Needs constant updating. This is a public site that anyone can see.

CoNZealand Sandbox – A test sand box for you to play with and get comfortable with how the Google Sites wiki works

Because it’s a Google Site, and can be made part of Google Suites, then we can insert Google Docs and so on into pages. This allows the Wiki to become part of our information structure and enable us to find information more easily.

FAQ:

Why are we not using the new Google Sites?

I (Norman) have looked at it, and it is more pretty. But it also is lacking most of the useful features of the Classic Google sites. At least in my opinion. If someone can find how to make it have the majority of the useful features of Classic Sites, then we should re-examine it.

Documents

This is a specific plugin for WordPress that lets us create basic documents in WordPress. We still have this enabled just in case it’s useful. But we do think that Google Docs is a much more complete solution.
